When we decided to open Wine Down, we made a conscious decision to support other small local businesses by featuring a menu of California wine, Bay Area beer, and local food. We’ve created close relationships with many of these producers and consider them part of the greater Wine Down team, so it’s been incredibly difficult to watch the fires affect the lives and livelihoods of our friends and greater team members.
Right now, it’s hard for anyone in the Bay Area to ignore these fires; it’s in the news, we can see the smoke, and our lungs hurt. But, when the media moves on and the smoke clears, let’s all try to remember the people and businesses affected by these fires will only be in the early phases of putting the pieces back together.
During the coming months, our North Bay community will need us more than ever.
Starting immediately, we’re taking monetary donations at Wine Down, with the goal of raising thousands of dollars for fire victims. When you’re closing out your tab, just let us know how much you’d like to donate. And we’ll match it.
We’ve also heard from many of our partners that one of the easiest ways we can all support the community is to buy products from the area. If they can continue to sell their goods, they can continue to pay their employees, rebuild, and return to normalcy as quickly as possible. So, while our full menu supports the local industry, we’ll also sell bottles (to enjoy here or to-go) from small North Bay wineries and donate 100% of proceeds to fire relief.
We’ll also roll out new support efforts throughout the rest of the year as news and needs evolve.
Let’s continue celebrating and enjoying the best of California.
